چکیده

In the long version of his Ph.D. thesis, Hugh Everett III developed pure wave mechanics as a way of solving the quantum measurement problem faced by the standard von Neumann-Dirac collapse formulation of quantum mechanics. Pure wave mechanics, however, encounters problems of its own. I will brief review Everett‟s description in his thesis of the standard measurement problem, how pure wave mechanics solves it, and the problems pure wave mechanics itself faces; then I will explain how one might nevertheless understand pure wave mechanics as a successful physical theory given the notion of faithfulness that Everett presents at the end of his long thesis. The result is a structural interpretation of pure wave mechanics as an empirically faithful theory. The standard collapse formulation of quantum mechanics has two dynamical laws:

Typical Worlds

Hugh Everett III presented pure wave mechanics, sometimes referred to as the many-worlds interpretation, as a solution to the quantum measurement problem. While pure wave mechanics is a deterministic physical theory with no probabilities, Everett sought to show how the theory might be understood as making the standard quantum statistical predictions as appearances to observers who were themselv...

On the Faithful Interpretation of Pure Wave Mechanics

Given Hugh Everett III’s understanding of the proper cognitive status of physical theories, his relative-state formulation of pure wave mechanics arguably qualifies as an empirically acceptable physical theory. The argument turns on the precise nature of the relationship that Everett requires between the empirical substructure of an empirically faithful physical theory and experience. On this v...

Why Pure Quantum Theory Is Not Enough

The theory of KdV equations allows to construct examples of physically different canonical structures for the same Hamilton operator. These examples are unproblematic in pilot wave and dynamical collapse theories, which define a physically distinguished configuration space Q, and in the Copenhagen interpretation, which identifies the canonical operators with classical descriptions of the corres...

Hylomorphic Functions

Philosophers have long pondered the Problem of Universals. Socrates and Plato hypothesized that the Universals exist independent of the real world in a universe of their own. The Doctrine of the Forms was criticized by Aristotle, who stated that the Universals do not exist apart from things — a theory known as Hylomorphism. This paper postulates that Measurement in Quantum Mechanics is the proc...

Wave Motion and Stop-Bands in Pipes with Helical Characteristics Using Wave Finite Element Analysis

Pipes are widely used in many industrial and mechanical applications and devices. Although there are many different constructions according to the specific application and device, these can show helical pattern, such as spiral pipes, wire-reinforced pipes/shells, spring-suspension, and so on. Theoretical modelling of wave propagation provides a prediction about the dynamic behavior, and it is f...
